New Firsts

We have achieved some new highs as well as reached new lows over the past few days. We had our first trip to the Emergency room, that record timing for us. We were furniture shopping and Gabe tripped and hit his head on a bed and got a nasty gash. We took him to the ER and after a very long wait, it was decided that she would glue the wound together instead of use stitches. So we waited some more, and some more, and some more, and then some more. We finally decided to just leave and ended up walking out of the ER! {Also a first} We went to the Chemist and got some new fandangled latex glue and glued it ourselves. It worked great and Gabe is doing just fine.

A pic of Gabe's cut, and a large drool string

Yesterday Ben had his first experience forgetting that we drive on the other side of the road here. He did it 3 times in one night! The first two weren't so bad, they were pretty small streets. But then the 3rd time he turned right onto a major road driving he wrong direction and we got some nasty honks. I hadn't been paying attention, I was looking for a restaurant, so neither of us could figure out what was going on, though the honks did seem directed to us. Once we finally figured it out and got over to the left side of the road, we had a good laugh. Since no one was hurt, it ended up being quite funny.

Next we experienced our first time getting really, REALLY lost. We drove so far we almost drove ourselves right into the city. We had a nice little detour trying to find our way home after going to a neighboring suburb for dinner. What should have been a short 10 minute or less car ride home turned into our an hour long fiasco after a long day. I guess it is good to acquaint ourselves with new routes.

Up to this point I guess our new firsts have been mostly lows, but for a high, today will be our first day in our new house! Laine will be sleeping on an air mattress and Gabe in a pack and play. Our new mattress should be arriving today, we hope but other than that we will not have much for another 6+ weeks. We will try to make do the best we can as we continue to set up shop with what we have. Even though the time has been stressful since we left our house and then again here in the hotel, we feel so blessed and are really looking forward to getting settled here, so far it is a great place and we are loving it!

Here are Laine and Gabe getting a small repreive from all of the shopping and working

Wow Nat, you've already had adventures in such a small amount of time! I can relate in some way because I know how it is to arrive in a foreign country with only a suitcase. Just remember that it will get better!
Lots of love.

I dont' know how you do it. Just moving a few hours away has been hard enough. You and your kids are troopers. I love the driving on the wrong side story. I've always want to go somewhere where we had to...

SOunds like you're having a fun time adjusting! I know we don't have issues with driving on the wrong side of the road here in Charlotte, but man, have we had our fair share of getting lost. The worst was one night while we too were furniture shopping and it started POURING rain here. We were cruizin' on empty and it was getting dark. Not a good combo. Thank heavens we happened upon a random gas station in the middle of no where, but it turned out that we were nearly 45 minutes away from our house. CRAZY! Good luck getting settled, can't wait to see more pics!

Poor Gabe, sorry for the fall and bad cut. Glad it all worked out. I can only say I am so happy you can always look at the glass half full instead of half empty. I am proud of you!
Miss the kids so much! You too!

Nat let me just say I totally know how it goes with driving on the wrong side of the road!! Yikes! It takes awhile to get adjusted to it. My in-laws are amazing though and can switch back and forth no problem. I really had to concentrate to remember which side I was supposed to be on especially on roads when I had to flip around fast I would get so confused. Good luck with that! Also does Australia have free health care like England? Is that why it took the chick so long to never get Gabe's head glued together? That is so frustrating! Sorry Gabe! He looks adorable! That's boys for ya! I love hearing about your new adventures, I am sure there will be many more to come...

p.s. James being the huge tennis fan he is, is so jealous that you are in Australia for the Australian Open going on right now. Is it anywhere close to you, or do you have no clue about it?!

What an adventure! Glad you will finally be in your house! I had no idea it was going to take that long for your stuff to arrive, that is crazy. Are they bringing it across the Pacific by way of a canoe or what?? Glad that the glue worked on Gabey's head. I don't think I could drive on the other side of the road, it seems so hard. How is the weather?

Oh not my little baby boy! Poor little guy and his favorite Auntie is not even there to kiss it better. So sad! I just want you to know that I too have forgotten about the side of the road to drive on before, mine was in America though, it was wierd. I miss you guys so much, I hope we can talk soon. Love you.

Haven't seen the pack & play yet. Sounds like your having some priceless moments. I like the glue story. We recently had a Doctor tell us to take off Caden's diaper & let him run around the house naked to cure his diarreah . Sometimes I really wonder...

I can't believe you actually moved to Sydney. That seems so far, I guess I don't feel so far away from family being in Utah.

How did your kids do on the plane? We went to Hawaii (6 hours) and it seemed SO long with kids!

Good luck on your new adventure, I bet you will meet a ton of really neat people in Austrailia!

poor gabe. i keep thinking of your "adventures" and trying to talk ansen into looking for an abroad job after he gets his cpa and he keeps declaring that a mission was good enough for him. i'm sure if i keep at it, like i'm working on my international adoption crusade he'll come around.

Cute pictures. Sounds like you guys are busy, but doing good. I noticed there are people in your house now so that must be one less thing for you to worry about. By the way...I am having a boy!

I'm sorry you had some lows, but I love your positive outlook on life! I read Noe the book "Koala Lou" the other day and in it her mother says "how're ya going, blossom?" in it and I totally thought of you!

Wow I am not sure I could handle all of that! Maybe a good birthday present for Ben would be a Garmin GPS. We have one and it has saved me many times in PHX.

We really enjoy your updates and I looOve your cooking blog. You will be so proud...I just purchased my first block of really expensive cheese and a bottle of cooking wine. Now I just need to get my herb garden going.:)

I wish I could say I was surprised by all the excitement you have had in your short time in Australia...but I am not. :) Your life is way more exciting and interesting when there is drama...and I love hearing about it and I especially admire how positive you are about everything. :)
