Haircuts much? Spiders Much? Forts Much?

I love it, I love it... and I don't care who knows! Yes, I do love getting my hair cut at the local Beauty School. Some would call me cheap, others maybe frugal. Yet others would say ridiculous. But I love it just the same. I have been going to the beauty school since I was young, though I did take a break in high school and went to the most expensive salon in Orem. I started going again in college and have never looked back. When I was first married I went to a school in Bountiful and got my hair cut next to Olene Walker. We even chatted since I knew her, Ben was working for the Governor at that time. Anyway, things run a little differently here. It took me months to figure out the system, but I finally found a government run Tafe school and booked an appointment.

I got there and I was in luck, free haircuts that day! You can't beat it. I splurged on lunch since I was saving the $10 a haircut costs. I made an appointment for next month where I am going to add highlights to the mix for $15!

It was a very, very interesting experience. There was this gay European guy in skinny jeans, I was really, really hoping to get him. Instead I got this husky English woman in her 40's. I was disappointed at first, but she really came through for me! She did a great job. Above is the picture, I got Laine to take it. I couldn't get a decent shot out of the 30 I had her take. She was dancing and wiggling all over the place. In the end, I decided that I preferred a decent face shot to a good hair shot, since I couldn't have both. I know the pic doesn't really flatter the hair much {please, I am not trolling for compliments here, I know it really doesn't}.

I couldn't understand a word anyone was saying. "So would you like some fringe or just keep it the same?" "Would you like to keep the {some word I don't remember, started with a c} or would you like me to even it out?" "Now, you need to use this purple shampoo weekly so your blonde doesn't look daggy, come round to the basin and let's give it a wash". I felt really lost in the whole process, I am looking forward to next time and I am bringing a friend who can translate for me.

Getting your haircut in foreign countries is a very cultural experience. I cut my own hair in Taiwan, but in Korea I used to walk to this little shop near my house. They would just slap the he!! out of my head! They would pop my ears and do all sort of crazy stuff. Even just the way they mix your hair around while they wash it was so different. It was different here as well, but no slapping or popping.

Since that wasn't raw enough for you Stace, here is one of the pics in my photo shoot with Laine. It looks like my best "Clifford" impersonation, {love that movie} "Natalie, please, make a face like a real human girl!", But alas was just one of the better shots when you are having your 3 year old take the picture and you've got this blasted overhead lighting going on. I'm in love with that double chin action.

And here's this little guy that moved into our boxes whilst they were being stored in the garage. He had also come and planted himself on our front window one night. He is HUGE and quite scary looking, but thanks to our handy-dandy chart of which nasty spiders are lethal and which ones aren't, we learned that he is a Huntsman or Wolfsman or something, and harmless.

We finally moved out all of the boxes and had them picked up. Ben made a little fort out of them for Laine to enjoy before the garbage man came round to pick them up, she quite enjoyed it.

Well you got that go to the hair school for a cut from me. I did it for years. Tried it here in Visalia, didnt work. They use clairol products that I think you buy better ones at the grocery store. Needless to say I never went back. I had a flaming guy that was the most flaming I ever have seen, which I thought hey at least it will turn out good. Wrong! Glad you found a good one to go to!

I actually think the picture of your hair looks great. If that is a "bad pic" then I wonder how much better it can get. I think I need to switch to hair school cuts. Really, the 65 bucks a cut (now that it is short, i need it cut every month) PLUS tip is just not cool.

And that spider???? Are you kidding me??? That creeps me out. I don't know if I'd dare go outside again. Lethal or not!

You hair looks great and I think Laine might have a future in photography! For such a wiggly, little one she did fabulous. I don't like your spider though. If it were me he would be taking a dirt nap because I would not be trusting your little dangerous spider chart:) I only got my hair cut in Japan once, just once, that was enough to make me decide to tough it out until I got home. It sounds very similar to your korean experiance except they wanted to also shave my face (I did not let them!) and their scissors must have been dull or something because every cut was painful, and I thought their products were stinky.

We were really spoiled with Bon Lossee. For a beauty school it was pretty upscale. The beauty schools here are all crappy. I was really liking the cut you had when I saw you in March. In fact, I came home and adapted mine so it was a little closer to yours. Then mom adapted hers to be a little more like mine. So I guess we are all walking around with more or less the same haircut. Twinners!

Nicole, make that 4 of us with the same haircut... Actually, mine looks really similar to Natalie's.

Ok back to the blog. Let me get this straight, first we get this picture of a nasty, disgusting, repulsive, scary spider in a box... and then the next shot is Laine playing in the box? WHAT? I don't think I would ever go outside. And I would get pest control over to my house WEEKLY. That is the scariest spider ever. Poison or no poison... yikes.

Great haircut! I've got my haircut once in Taiwan, but it was by a British guy. I'm still wanting to try Georgie Pai's before we leave though. I still can't believe you cut your own hair when you were here. So talented- you always looked fabulous! You are brave, that spider probably would have given me a heart attack =). Laine is so cute, forts are the best!

Lol...definitely raw, now that's what I'm talking about!!! Love it. So I once went to a beauty school to get my hair done and I still maintain it was the best highlights I have ever had. I love your hair long like this. Btw, best purple shampoo/conditioner is what I gave to you in Korea, Clairol Shimmer Lights. Because some of them are really purple (which only really works on the yellow) and this one has a lot of blue in it (to counteract any orange brassiness). That spider is freaky, poisonous or not. I would get out the biggest bottle of hairspray I have and spray that sucker down.

Oh, also...I tried to cut my own hair the other weekend (disaster) which I had to go have fixed. When J asked me why in the world I did it I said, "well Natalie used to do it" and he said "Well you're not Natalie." I seriously think you would be so good at doing hair. It would be a fun thing to do on the side.

Hey Stace, cutting hair on the side would seriously rad! Do you think I could do it without a license? I have cut many people's hair and I do love it.

Also, because I have never wanted my hair to look "daggy", at your suggestion I did buy some of the Clairol Shampoo. I got it buy one get one on ebay and still have a ton of it left. I was going through it pretty heavy in the platinum days, but have slowed in recent years.

LOL at your haircutting! I only cut it myself because it was short and I was in a foreign country and they cut it British white person style! I couldn't communicate what I wanted. When I am in and English speaking country I go for professionals, or atleast student professionals! Next time we're in Utah, let's go to the beauty school together! I'll give you your pick of Paul Mitchell The School or Taylor Andrews Academy.

Your hair is getting so long! I don't think I have seen it this long in years. You have always had super cute hair... you can do any length. I have decided to grow mine out as well and it is in that awkward stage. So ugly...

Your hair is super cute! I don't like that spider one bit. I think I would probably pass away. We have lots of spiders here, but they don't look like they could eat a small squirrel.

Ok, that picture is scary. And yes, I too LOVE the double chin action. I think Laine is really on to something here with those pictures...I smell a photographer coming our way

Nat that spider is disgusting, pest control there ASAP!

Your Hair could not be cuter. You always have great hair! The hair school did a fab job. I used to always go to Bon Losee in High School. They did pretty good but sometimes I would leave looking like a poodle!

I'm so surprised this post is about a hairCUT - your hair looks so long! I guess that's how you know it's been a while since you've seen someone - if their hair looks longer to you even post-haircut.

And the spider. Holy crap. I can't believe Laine dared to play near those boxes after finding that lil' guy.

Fringe = bangs

Your haircut looks great! And you've just reminded me that there's a beauty school 'round here somewhere, maybe I should give them a try too.

That looks like a wolf spider. We've got a few at my house too. Scared the you-know-what outta me when I first saw one. Now Huntsman, they can get much much bigger than that!
